Exactly What Is Your Intuition?

  1. It's natural born versus learned.
  2. A hunch, or gut feeling,
  3. is a feeling or sensation that enters your consciousness quickly.
  4. It's noticeable enough to cause you to act on it, possibly without even being aware that you're acting on this hunch.

Have you ever stepped foot into your driveway late at night and felt something was off, but you didn't know why? Or, gotten a negative vibe from the person in the checkout line behind you even though there was no reason for it? Maybe it was something else.

Regardless, there's a good chance you shrugged that feeling off or dismissed it as illogical. We have, as a culture, moved toward believing that when decisions are to be made rationality must take precedence. Rational thinking is all well and good, your logic can take you far, but your gut cannot be ignored. That instinct calling to you needs to be heard.

Which is a great way to begin the explanation as to what is your intuition. Instinct is your innate tendency to a certain behavior.

It's natural born versus learned. A hunch, or gut feeling, is a feeling or sensation that enters your consciousness quickly. It's noticeable enough to cause you to act on it, possibly without even being aware that you're acting on this hunch.

Intuition is the process whereby you gain the ability to know a thing without taking time to reason it. It's essentially the bridge that fills the gap between your conscious and unconscious parts of your mind. It lives between reason and instinct.

You need reason and instinct to make great decisions, whether it's for yourself, your children, or your career. The sad fact of the matter is that many of us shut the intuitive part of ourselves out. It's the connecting thread between reason and instinct. You need both to make great decisions, but you can't use both unless you can also hear your intuition.

The reason that many people shut intuition out is that they are deeply uncomfortable with the idea. It feels like you're following some mystic guidance system as opposed to your inner voice. When answering what is your intuition, we should consider this-we all come equipped with an inner guidance system, we just lose touch with it as we listen to the people around us and let others shape our destiny.

People love to put humans above animals because we have the ability to engage in rational thinking and use logic. Humans might be higher on the food chain, but we are, in a sense, animals. Animals very much rely on their instincts to survive.

Humans have evolved beyond solely using instincts to survive, but that doesn't mean that feeling has gone away and it doesn't mean that feeling is now useless. We have a massive advantage over animals, in that we have reason, we have instinct, and we have intuition.

We have everything going for us, but we still so often ignore it! You don't need to ignore logic or rational thinking to benefit from intuition. You can use all of these tools in balance with each other.

Now, how can you include intuition in daily life? Especially when you have spent so long trying to ignore that part of yourself. You re-integrate it through dialogue. Your conscious is relentless, chipping in with logic.

Your unconscious mind is combing your brain for memories, past experiences, and patterns to connect with your feelings and hunches. It's cryptic, its process is a mystery to your logical mind.

How Can Your Intuition Be Of Help?

Every day that you live on this earth, you are faced with a large number of decisions. But how do you know which decisions you should make with your intuition versus those you should make why relying on your judgment? Well the answer isn’t always this simple.

  • Think Logically First

Whenever you are faced with a decision in your life, the first thing you need to consider is the logic behind the decision. Is each answer logical? Will both lead you to where you want to go?

If the answer is no to one, then your work is done for you. But if the answer is yes to both of these questions, now you may be in a bit of a bind. And this is because both options are good for you and logic in nature.

  • Then Listen For Your Intuition

After you have deemed that both choices are logical, now is the time when you should start to listen to your intuition. Which option makes you feel better physically?

Do you feel nervous and nauseous when you think of one particular choice? These physical reactions are your intuition trying to help you to make the right choice.

  • Your Intuition Can Help You Make Big Decisions In Life

Besides the above case, when logic fails to make a decision for you, you should also always include your intuition in big decisions. These big decisions can be a change in career path, where you live, or even how you spend your free time. This is because there are a lot of unknowns in big decisions like these, and you should let your subconscious mind play a part in the decision.

Think of it like this, you have a great career that you love, but another company comes in and offers you the same position for more money, but you would need to move. There are pros and cons about switching your career when it involves a move, and both options have logical conclusions. This is a situation where you absolutely want to include your intuition.

Think about both opportunities while also gauging how your body feels. Do you feel sick just thinking of a move? That may be your body’s way of telling you to stay where you are at. And even though it may be difficult to turn down more money, the last thing you want to do is move to a new city that you feel horrible just thinking about.

  • Your Intuition Can Help You Make Decisions About People

The number one time you should rely on your intuition to make decisions is when you are making decisions about another person. This is because your intuition works best when it comes to observing small changes in body language and tone of voice as you interact with another person.

For example, say you are making a decision whether to move in with your significant other. Sure, it’s logical because you will be able to share expenses and save money. But do you have a bad feeling about it?

This is an instance where you should follow your intuition no matter what. And this is because your intuition probably noticed something you did not.

Overall, it can be difficult to rely on your intuition when it comes to making decisions. But there are certain decisions where you have to include your intuition in the process because logic just isn’t enough to come to an answer.

So next time you are faced with a large decision, or one which involves your relationships with other people, it’s definitely time to stop and see what your intuition has to say before you give an answer.
