The Self Talk Book And My Personal Journey

Hardly anyone discusses the term "negative self-talk" outside of professional arenas. To be honest, before I wrote the book, I had never actually heard the term. It was only after I heard a bible study on Proverbs 18:21, that I started to look more into negative thinking and negative speaking.

I understood that I needed to speak more positively in order to come out of my past pessimistic behavior and obsessive negative thinking.

Positive thinking and how to avoid negative self talk is something that we should learn and practice on a daily basis. However, It is this lack of awareness, leaves us at a disadvantage.

One of the purposes of the self talk book is to raise awareness about the toxic inner dialogue that we have that is literally creating our reality.

What does the bible say about self talk and negative thinking? Here is one of my favorite scriptures to reference:

Everyone has a history of negative thinking. Some, like myself, may have dealt with it more than others. In my case, I tend to analyze everything. My brain rarely rests. So there was plenty of opportunity to go down a rabbit hole and stay focused on the negative.

Positive self talk based on scripture helped me to refocus my thoughts. Some people appear more positive and confident than others. A lot of it has to do with the influences in their childhood.

You can change your negative self-talk.Start by observing your thought patterns. There may be instances when you deliberately feel negative or start saying negative things to yourself.

"Above all, take the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked."

(Ephesians 6:16)

The Self Talk Book is about something we all do- talk to ourselves. We all talk to ourselves and many of us can be a bit hard on ourselves.

We have to choose between positive and negative self talk. It's a choice.

Deuteronomy 30:19: "I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live."

What we say to ourselves radically affects the quality of our lives, and our ability to do things effectively.

Filter your thoughts. Are they predominately positive self-talk or negative self-talk?

"What we say to each other is just as important as what we say to ourselves. Words do hurt."

“For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.”

-James 3:2
